In 1980 Harriet Prichard created the perfect plan to offer life-giving gifts to a needy world. Weary of holiday commercialism and with a deep sense of compassion, she embarked on a journey to offer perfectly wrapped gifts adorned with ribbons of hope to people in need. Her inspiration and energizing spirit resulted in the creation of Alternative Gifts International. (A Nonprofit, Interfaith Agency) The mission for the Market is to offer global education and gift opportunities for people of all ages. The quest for the perfect gift has never been so simple or convenient!
Unique Shopping Made Perfect
The Alternative Gift Market offers a unique shopping experience to shoppers through thirty-five gift choices that fall into the following categories: Hunger Relief, Shelter, Medical Assistance, Development, Peace & Justice, Environment, Child Survival, Sustainable Agriculture, Education, Water and Disaster Relief. Each gift "project" is displayed at booths run by volunteers recruited from the community. Not only does the Market offer gift opportunities through Alternative Gifts; the Market invites local Nonprofit agencies to join the Market for the benefit of awareness and assistance from the community. The Alternative Market offers hope to people in crisis and also offers projects that protect and preserve the earth's endangered environment. The Market is a perfect holiday celebration offering a shopping bonanza of life changing gifts such as: shelter, new homes, clean water, groceries, solar solutions, medicine, bikes, reef rescue, solutions for peace, environmental education and more for mere pocket change!
Shopping, Food and Entertainment!
The Market will also offer food and beverages in exchange for free will offerings for Katrina victims. In addition to unique shopping, be sure not to miss the 1:00 appearance by local author and artist Tom Roberts! Tom will share his poem, "The Perfect Gift" and will also share his book, 'Twas the Night Before Christ! (Proceeds from Tom's book sales are donated to the Children's Home Foundation!) Tom's poem, "The Perfect Gift" weaves a brilliant thread of hope and community caring in and throughout the Market!
