Decorating With Nature
Fall is full of items to use in decorating your home. Keep your eyes open while walking or driving, and be creative. Most cost little to nothing and they help bring the season alive.
Here are some ideas for using nature's bounty to make low-cost or no-cost fall decorations.
o Fill baskets with brightly colored leaves, dried flowers, pine cones and dried apples.
o Place pumpkins, dried corn, squash, gourds or acorns on tables, by doors, etc.
o Arrange pussywillow branches and cattails on flat surfaces.
o Make a colorful candle centerpiece from a dozen ears of fall corn. Attach the ears to the candle with a hot-glue gun. Tie some twine around the display and surround the base with some fall leaves. This makes a nice centerpiece at a fall dinner table.
o Fill an old bucket with apples, squeeze in a candle and there you have another fall lighting idea.
o Gather miniature pumpkins and gourds to make hanging lanterns. Clean out the gourds and pumpkins, and attach a piece of copper wire for a handle. Use a Phillips-head screwdriver to punch holes in the gourds, and add small tea candles for lanterns that shine.
o Turn an old picture frame into a fall wreath. Remove the cardboard backing and the glass. Attach bittersweet and dried sunflowers to the frame. Wrap the frame with rustic twine, and add some autumn leaves to create a beautiful wreath.
For those of you who like to decorate with nature but don't like the mess, here's a quick way to make a decorative fall wreath. You will need:
o Vine wreath
o Fall floral garland
o Silk leaves in fall colors
o Floral decorations
o Bow
o Wire
o Glue gun (optional)
Lay the garland on the wreath and attach it with wire or glue every six inches. If the garland is too long, cut it to fit or loop it around the wreath. Attach the leaves and decorations with wire or glue. Add a bow to the bottom of the wreath. Make a hanging loop from the wire and attach it to the back of your wreath. Then hang your wreath and celebrate the season!
The simple things found in nature sometimes make the best decorations. So this year when you are out enjoying the beauty of nature, look around for some things that will make the perfect fall decorations.
